First, make sure your iPod is fully charged and then toggle the Hold switch on and off.

* Make sure your computer meets the iPod system requirements.

* Charge the iPod and make sure it is getting power

* Secure the iPod's connections

* Connect iPod to a high-powered USB port

* Check whether your iPod's cable functions properly

* Place the iPod into Disk Mode

* Check which format iPod is in. If not, Convert video to iPod fromat.

* Check whether your computer's port functions properly

* Check if Windows confuses iPod with network drive

* Your USB or FireWire card isn't recognized by Windows

* Third-party software may be causing conflicts

* Install or reinstall iTunes


Another method remomended by Wikihow:

 

Plug the iPod into the computer using the iPod USB connector (it should have come with the iPod in the box).

Open iTunes.

Go onto your Windows desktop and click on the "My Computer" icon. There should be something along the lines of "Removable drive...", and then a letter and colon after it.

Double click on that. This should open the iPod in iTunes, or alert the computer of the iPod being plugged in.


Tips:


1.
There might be a little grey square with a green arrow pointing to the left that pops up in the tool bar. If that happens, then clicking on that would have the same effect as clicking on it in the My Computer folder.


2. Blow into the USB connector (the white wire) AND the USB port (the hole you plug the wire into) if none of these Steps or Hints work.


3. Try restarting your computer. If none of the above tips and steps work try the tip below.


4. If this doesn't work, then open Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and click Add Hardware. This causes your cpu to search for anything that you have plugged into a port.
